Submit a Splinter Meeting Proposal
The IAU General Assembly provides the opportunity for you to hold public or private splinter meetings at the meeting venue in Honolulu, Hawaii. If you are considering organizing a splinter meeting for your institution, be aware of the deadlines listed below and complete the Splinter Meeting Order Form.

- Splinter Meetings are accepted continually, until the deadline, and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis based on meeting room availability.
- Splinter Meeting organizers must be registered to attend the meeting,
- Splinter Meetings can be either private or public, and can range from just a few people to hundreds of attendees.
- Organizers are responsible for all costs associated with the splinter meeting including, but not necessarily limited to: Adminstrative/Room fee, catering, Audio/Visual equipment, internet, phone services and all applicable taxes and service charges.
- Please be sure to place an Audio/Visual order with us if necessary, as Splinter Meetings do not come with standard equipment.
- If your Splinter Meeting is public it will be posted in the online general schedule and published in the Meeting Program. Private splinter meetings are not published.
- All requests submitted after the deadline will be assigned based upon availability and will not be included in the Meeting Program.
- The Adminstrative/Room fee may be collected prior to the meeting. All other charges will be billed by the American Astronomical Society to the organizer or sponsor following the meeting. The amount of the fee will be decided by the American Astronomical Society.
IAU Division, Commission, or Working Group Meetings
The following Splinter Meeting guidelines apply to business and science meetings held by leadership of IAU Divisions, Commissions, or Working Groups. Please contact IAU General Secretary Thierry Montmerle to determine if you qualify for this type of Splinter Meeting.
- Splinter Meeting requests will be reviewed by the IAU Secretariat and Division Presidents.
- Administrative/Room fees, Audio/Visual equipment, internet, and phone services will be sponsored by the IAU Secretariat; no cost is incurred by the Organizer.
- Splinter Meetings will not be scheduled on Division Days (Friday, 7 August and Monday, 10 August).
